ĶƵapp (CvSU) hosted the Luzon and National Capital Region qualifying leg of the 2024 Philippine Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Games, July 28 – August 3.

Now in its second year, this week-long event themed “Husay ng ROTC, Husay ng Kabataan” aims to promote camaraderie, nationalism, sports development, and the ROTC program.

More than a thousand participants including cadets from the Philippine Army, Philippine Navy, and Philippine Air Force from various higher education institutions battled it out in the following events: arnis, athletics, basketball, boxing, chess, e-sports, kickboxing, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, target shooting, volleyball, and raiders’ competition. 

This year’s games officially commenced with the opening ceremonies led by Sen. Francis N. Tolentino as the “father” of Philippine ROTC Games, and Sen. Robinhood C. Padilla as the guest of honor and speaker.

Prior to the kickoff, Sen. Ronald “Bato” M. Dela Rosa also graced the Miss ROTC Luzon 2024 which was won by Ms. Radha Marie F. Cabug of PATTS College of Aeronautics ( Air Force). 

In their messages, the legislators lauded CvSU’s efforts in hosting the games  – a testament to the institution’s continuous support to the ROTC program and sports development in the country. 

Joining the opening program were CvSU officials headed by Dr. Hernando D. Robles, University President; Comm. Matthew “Fritz” P. Gaston, Philippine Sports Commission; Asec. Henry A. Robinson Jr., Department of National Defense; Tagaytay City Councilor Michael Francis C. Tolentino, representing Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham N. Tolentino; Prof. Edna Imelda F. Legazpi, Commission on Higher Education Director of the Office of Student Development and Services and representing Chairperson J. Prospero E. De Vera III; Rep. Venus Emperado Apas, ipaTUPAD Partylist; and other officials from CHED and participating universities and colleges. 

Also present in the kickoff ceremony were Maj. Gen. Joel Alejandro Nacnac; Maj. Gen. Romulo Manuel Jr., Commander of RESCOM; Brig. Gen. Samuel Manzano, Deputy Commander of RESCOM; Brig. Gen. Vicente Ronatay, Commander of AFP Reserve Command; Brig. Gen. Llewillyn Banaag, Deputy Commander of Air Force Reserve Command; Maj. Gen. Joseph Cuison, Commander of Naval Reserve Command; Col. Nolito Quemi, Deputy G9 PA; and Lt. Cdr. Eleno Rolly Saldon. 

The playing venues include CvSU (arnis, athletics, chess, table tennis, volleyball, and raiders competition); Tagaytay Combat Sports Center (boxing and kickboxing); Sigtuna Hall, Tagaytay International Convention Center (sepak takraw); Robinson’s Tagaytay Basketball Court (basketball); De La Salle University Dasmariñas (swimming); Camp Riego de Dios in Tanza (target shooting); and Tolentino Sports Complex and Activity Center (taekwondo). 

The ROTC Games – Visayas leg was held in Bacolod City on May 26 – June 1, while Zamboanga City hosted the Mindanao Leg on June 23-29. CvSU is also slated to host the national championship on August 18 – 24.
